Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
As Covid concerns escalate during the festive season, West Bengal, like the rest of the country, experiences a surge in the number of cases. Despite this, a sigh of relief emerges as genome sequencing conducted on seven samples sent to the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics in November and December reveals the absence of the JN.1 variant in the state. This variant has been a cause for concern across the country, and the news of its non-detection in West Bengal brings a momentary respite.
The state has reported an increase in Covid cases, with five new cases detected till Tuesday afternoon. Two patients have been admitted to Bellevue, while three are receiving treatment at Amri Hospital in Dhakuria. Dr. Tusharkanti Patra emphasizes the importance of caution, urging the public to use masks in crowded places and minimize exposure to gatherings. The health department has initiated inspections of various medical colleges, focusing on assessing the infrastructure for treating respiratory and influenza patients, as well as evaluating Covid testing facilities.
